WVU vs Maryland Preview

Maryland is looking to rebound against a disappointing loss to UCONN last Saturday. For WVU, they look to stay perfect and go 3-0 as they enter their first game against a Big 12 opponent in Baylor. But before we can look to the historical first game in the Big 12, WVU will have to face the old rival of the Terps.

Again, this should be no match for WVU. Even though Maryland is the EER's toughest opponent so far, that isn't saying a whole lot. Even though Maryland has an experienced defense, and the stats show it too. The terrapin's defense is ranked 8th in college football. But then again, they have played William and Mary, Temple, and UCONN. It'll be interesting to see if this Maryland defense is for real or just another mediocre ACC team. Yes, I just said that.

Not only will it test the strength of the Maryland defense, it will also put the WVU offense to test too. WVU is 3rd in the nation in total offense and has the leading Heisman candidate at the Quarterback position. With Geno's completion percentage at an unreal number right now (88%), expect to see him shred this 4-3 defense. Expect to see a lot of blitzing from Maryland and a lot of disguised play calls which WVU used to be known for under Jeff Casteel. Geno and this offense has practiced against Casteel for 3 years at the most, so they should know what to expect.

Another thing to look for is the defense to be aggressive for WVU. With the struggling spot at quarterback for the Terps, you can expect to see a lot of blitzes and the quarterback with a target on his head. Rough him up early and stop the run game and it will put whatever offensive attack the Terps have to a rest. Remember, they only scored 7 points against Willliam and Mary.

Don't sleep on this Maryland team though. This rivalry can get a little heated sometimes, and Maryland is tired of getting pushed around by WVU. They come out with everything they've got, but still this should not be a tough one for the EER's.

My prediction for the game:

WVU 48

Maryland 7

Again, you should see Geno have another outstanding game with his completion percentage still at an elite number when this is all said and done. Watch out for Steffon Diggs on Maryland's side. He is what I like to think a young Tavon Austin (or maybe even better). If WVU can hold the Terps from gaining momentum, then don't expect this game to be close.
