West Virginia Legislature

House Speaker Tim Miley and his leadership team are forming a Small Business, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development work group with the intent of it becoming a standing committee focusing on those issues when the regular legislative session begins Jan. 8.
The West Virginia Legislature passed House Bill 2014, the Budget Bill, in just three days of an extended session.
Today the Senate completed Senate Bill 105,which would allow rule making authority relating to administration, collection and enforcement of local sales, use and excise taxes by the Tax Commissioner.
The House convened today to consider and pass three bills and adjourn the 1st Extraordinary Session.
The Legislature convened this evening for the 2013 First Extraordinary Session to complete legislation on two bills.

As West Virginians head to stores to check-off gifts from their Christmas lists, Secretary of State Natalie E. Tennant is urging people to remember to check out the small businesses in their hometown. "Small businesses form the backbone of our local economy," Secretary Tennant said.
A winter storm has left more than a foot of snow in parts of West Virginia on one of the busiest travel days of the year. Eastern West Virginia and the Eastern Panhandle are the hardest hit areas.

The Secretary of State’s Office maintains an online database of all the charitable organizations licensed to solicit donations from West Virginians.
According to West Virginia University’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research, about 42 percent of workers in West Virginia are employed by small businesses.
Hundreds of thousands of West Virginia voters cast their ballot in the 2014 Midterm Election to choose federal representatives, half the State Senate, the entire House of Delegates, and to decide on a proposed amendment to the state constitution.
With all 55 counties reporting, 97,323 people voted during the 10-day Early Voting period in addition to 4,828 absentee ballots being returned voted.
Tens of thousands of people are expected to take advantage of the Early Voting period in the 2014 General Election, which begins Wednesday, October 22 and continues until Saturday, November 1.
