Person hit and killed by train near Fayette County border 05-21-2013 00:33 One person is dead after being struck by a train Monday near the border of Fayette and Summers counties.
The incident was initially reported around 2 p.m. and involved a CSX train in the Meadow Creek area.
Authorities say the accident happened on CSX property within the New River Gorge National Park.
Fayette County 911 says a medical examiner was called out to the scene along with officials with the Park Service and CSX.
The victim’s name has not been released as the investigation continues. |

West Virginia commemorative coin sells out 05-21-2013 00:21 The limited edition silver commemorative rounds marking West Virginia’s 150th birthday sold out within 12 hours of their debut. “It shows a lot of people have an interest in having one to keep,” said Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. “We have a lot of the specialty type coin collectors in West Virginia and this is one they can pass down to the kids or their grand kids.”

Children who lost parent serving as officer get some extra help 05-20-2013 23:36 The children of law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty now qualify for some extra financial assistance for college.
Governor Earl Ray Tomblin signed into law Monday outside the Culture Center S.B. 394 which provides a four year scholarship for children who lost their parents in the line of duty to help pay for college. “$7,500 a year will go to dependent children of those officers to help offset the costs associated with continuing education beyond high school,” said Capt. Body found in Kanawha County home 05-20-2013 19:21 The discovery of a body in a home in Kanawha County is being investigated as a homicide.
At around 1:45 p.m. Monday, Metro 911 received a call from a male who said he saw a deceased man’s body in a mobile home on Darlington Lane in Elkview. The man caller noticed the body while peering through a window. Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies later identified the body as belonging to 28 year old David Lemons, the owner of the residence. WVU team helps with Oklahoma tornado relief 05-20-2013 13:35 Members of the WVU baseball team are safe after a devastating tornado passed about 10 miles to the south of where the team is staying this week in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The F-4 tornado wiped out parts of Moore, Okla., on Monday afternoon. Tornado warning sirens went off in downtown Oklahoma City.
MetroNews Sports anchor Kyle Wiggs, traveling with the team, watched the devastation happening just a few miles away.
